Buraca Roasters is a specialty coffee roaster based in Lisbon, Portugal. Buraca opened its first coffee shop in 2019 and commenced e-commerce operations at the end of 2022.

The Challenge

Buraca aims to become a leading specialty coffee brand worldwide, offering coffees from all over the world while sharing their stories.
  • Slow growth not meeting desired KPIs.
  • Product offerings not meeting the necessities of their customer base, resulting in a low average order value (AOV) and lifetime value (LTV).
  • Their e-commerce site was hosted on WordPress and had a Largest Contentful Paint (LCP) of 10s (indicating how quickly the main content of a web page loads). This not only led to a low ranking on search engines but also harmed their conversion rate.
  • Lack of email flows resulted in potential sales losses.
  • Absence of a lead magnet resulted in warm visitors leaving without providing their contact details.

The Solution

  • We identified a significant loss of traffic due to page speed. Taking this as an opportunity, we initiated a complete redesign and reduced the Largest Contentful Paint (LCP) from 10s to 1s.
  • Once we aligned the website with the brand, we crafted an appealing subscription model, distinct from what competitors were offering, giving it a unique twist to match the brand values.
  • We introduced a trial subscription option to encourage easier opt-ins, resulting in a 500% increase in first subscription orders.
  • Additionally, we introduced gift subscriptions, allowing customers to pay for several months in advance and gift them to others.
  • To increase the average order value (AOV), we designed tasting packs of 35g and bundled products together.
  • We implemented a lead magnet and developed several email flows, including customer winback, welcome flow, review request, and abandoned checkout sequences.
  • Approaching Black Friday with less than 30 days remaining, we launched a lead campaign to expand our lead base, enabling us to convert them into sales using email marketing and avoiding high CPMs (Cost Per Mille) on Black Friday.
  • Once achieved, we devised compelling Black Friday offers and distributed them to our new lead base.
